5 Silver Linings to Spending More Time at Home

April 15, 2020

The COVID-19 outbreak has thrown us all for a loop. Just a month ago we were working in offices, eating at restaurants, meeting up with friends, and definitely not washing our hands for 20 seconds countless times a day. Times are tough to say the least, so we need to look at the silver linings to help get us through this.

Our pets are living their best lives

There’s a slight chance that all the pets of the world caused the COVID-19 outbreak so they could get more walks, treats and cuddles, but this theory has yet to be confirmed. Kidding aside, it is nice to know that our furry and scaly family members are getting extra love from us right now. Plus, animal companionship is good for humans in times of stress, so cuddle up with your fur baby to ease your worries.

Precious time with the kids

Having children during a pandemic is extra stressful, but the saying is true, they do grow up too fast. Perhaps this time during physical distancing can allow families to connect deeper and have extra time together they wouldn’t normally have. Depending on your kid’s age, they may or may not remember the weeks (or months) of hanging out with mom and dad during the COVID-19 outbreak, but we are sure they will enjoy the extra attention and time with their two favourite people.

Home-cooked meals

Whether you’re a budding chef or a nervous beginner, now is a great time to make home-cooked meals and learn some new dishes. Home-cooked meals are healthier than fast food, and you’ll be able to show off your honed skills once things are back to normal. Your friends will love coming over for dinner, though after physical distancing for a long time, we will all probably want to dine out for a while. Don’t know where to get started? YouTube is a great resource for cooking tutorials for all skill levels. And cooking is a fun activity for the whole family – get everyone involved!

Checking home projects off the to-do list

Home projects like painting or refinishing kitchen cabinets used to be put on the back burner because there were simply too many other things to do. Well now that we are staying home, you might as well check a few home projects off your to-do list. It will feel good to improve your home, especially since you will be spending a lot of time in it. We’ve shared a few home projects that will brighten your mood too.

Time for self reflection

In between working from home, getting the kids connected with e-learning, and keeping the household together, there will be time for self reflection. Life, although a tad chaotic right now, is simpler in many ways. With less daily options we can reflect on what we want out of life, and perhaps the things we have taken for granted now that we don’t have access to them. In this storm, seek out moments of calm to find some peace amongst the unknown.
